Don't want to wait in line all day?

Vail Resorts is launching a new element to it's already very popular EPIC mix app that will allow users to view real time lift line wait times.

For the upcoming 2015-16 ski season it will be available for Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone. The resort giant's five other destination ski areas in Utah and Lake Tahoe, Calif., will benefit from this feature in the 2016-17 season. The new technology — called EpicMix Time — will calculate and display up-to-the minute waits at 55 core lifts and gondolas, the company said in a news release.

Chief information officer Robert Urwiler likened the new technology to apps, like Waze, which uses data collected from participants to track highway traffic.

"We're applying unique and sophisticated analytics to aggregated, anonymous location data generated by smart phones and other mobile devices across the distinct topography and layout of our chairlifts to calculate reliable wait time information for our guests," he said in the release.

As well as this very useful information, EPICmix also records the number of lifts you have taken, vertical descent and also acts as the interface where you can view photos taken on the mountain by the on mountain photographers.
